Evolve Dry Cat Food

Evolve brand cat food is manufactured by Triumph Pet Industries, who also markets Hi-Tor Pet Foods, and Triumph brand pet food. Triumph Pet Industries has been selling pet food formulas for 60 years. However, Triumph did not become the exclusive distributor of Evolve brand cat food until 2007. Several of Triumph's products have been involved in recent pet food recalls. However, only the Evolve Kitten Formula of the Evolve dry cat food formulas was recalled. This formula was suspected to be contaminated, and was added to the list of 2007 recalled pet food formulas.

Evolve Dry Cat Food Reviews

Evolve brand cat food is available in three different dry cat food formulas. Each of these formulas is designed for a specific life stage (Kitten, Cat, Senior Cat). These formulas are available in a 3lb bag, a 7lb bag, and a large 15lb bag. However, the kitten formula is only available in the 3lb and 7lb bag sizes. Currently, Evolve does not offer a grain-free dry cat food formula.

Evolve Dry Cat Food Formulas:

  1. Evolve Kitten Formula is designed for kittens from 8 weeks to 1 year of age. The first two ingredients are Chicken and Chicken Meal, while the next three ingredients are carbohydrate-based. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 37% protein and 18% fat. NOTE: This formula has been positively identified as being part of the 2007 pet food recall. However, the only bags affected are those with a “Best Before” date of 09/13/08.
  2. Evolve Maintenance Formula is designed for cats of all life stages. The first five ingredients are Chicekn, Chicken Meal, Brown Rice, Corn Meal and Corn Gluten Meal. Other ingredients include Eggs, Brewer's Yeast, Spinach, Tomato and Cranberries. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 35% protein and 18% fat.
  3. Evolve Natural Cat Food – Senior Formula is designed for elderly cats, or cats with special nutritional needs. Since older cats require a different type of nutrition, it is best to switch your cat to a senior formula once they reach 7 to 11 years of age. The first five ingredients are Chicken, Chicken Meal, brown Rice, Brewer's Rice and Rice Bran. Other ingredients include Tomatoes, Chicken Fat, Flaxseed Meal, Peas and Avocado Oil. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 28% protein and 10% fat.

Evolve Dry Cat Food Consumer Ratings

Evolve brand dry cat food has been generally well-received by most consumers. The price of the formulas is “relatively reasonable” (according to some consumers), and many pet owners are drawn to the brand because of the company's advertising of “quality ingredients”. Most cat owners report that their cats are eager to eat Evolve brand dry cat food formulas, and that the formulas seem to have a distinctive “real food” aroma. Since Evolve adds live-active enzymes to some of their pet food formulas, this is very helpful when aiding the digestion of the food by cats. However, the inclusion of carbohydrate-based ingredients in Evolve brand cat food formulas may deter some consumers from purchasing this product, especially if they are trying to pursue a low-carbohydrate diet for their cats.

I was feeding my 2 cats dry foods that were labeled as “healthy”, etc. One of the cats was scratching constantly, and there are no fleas on them or in their environment. I heard Marion Nestle and Malden Nesheim on the Diane Rehm show this past week discussing their book, “Feed Your Pet Right: The Authoritative Guide to Feeding Your Dog and Cat”. I immediately looked at the first several ingredients in the food I was feeding the cats, and the FIRST ingredient was ‘corn meal gluten’, followed by other grains. After reading labels at the store, I bought a 3 pound bag of Evolve dry food and stopped feeding them the other stuff. Within 2 days, my cat stopped scratching. I was amazed and thrilled. Both cats like the food a lot, and it’s such a relief to not watch Nate scratching constantly. The first 5 ingredients are the most important. Stay away if they contain a lot of glutens and grains.

I am in the zip code of 27127 and have found Evolve Chicken & Brown Rice dry cat food with no wheat/corn/soy and make with real chicken in Wal-Mart. Initially they were selling the 3 lb bag and now selling the 16 lb bag at a significant savings to online retailers. My cats have been on grain-free dry/wet food for a year. I mix Evolve in with a grain-free salmon flavor dry food and they like it. When I began the slow switch over to grain-free, they were not happy and would pick through the dish and spit out the grain-free but we eventually made the transition and their coats are healthier, less itching, fewer tummy upsets, and no constipation. I also feed them grain-free Wellness canned cat food, which is low protein for the older cats who no longer eat the dry food.
