I was feeding my 2 cats dry foods that were labeled as "healthy", etc. One of the cats was scratching constantly, and there are no fleas on them or in their environment. I heard Marion Nestle and Malden Nesheim on the Diane Rehm show this past week discussing their book, "Feed Your Pet Right: The Authoritative Guide to Feeding Your Dog and Cat". I immediately looked at the first several ingredients in the food I was feeding the cats, and the FIRST ingredient was 'corn meal gluten', followed by other grains. After reading labels at the store, I bought a 3 pound bag of Evolve dry food and stopped feeding them the other stuff. Within 2 days, my cat stopped scratching. I was amazed and thrilled. Both cats like the food a lot, and it's such a relief to not watch Nate scratching constantly. The first 5 ingredients are the most important. Stay away if they contain a lot of glutens and grains.
